You make it sound like there is another way.

Don't come around asking some dumb questions then try to tell people what the score is. ;)

Tips on soldering can be found on the megasquirt build guide. They give a good write up on how to solder and what can go wrong.

Most likely you are getting dry joints where the solder isn't taking properly to the chip's leg or the pcb. This is probably due to a lack of heat on the joint or something similar.

I use isopropanol alcohol to clean pcb's, but any solvent cleaner will do a reasonable job (not acetone!) clean any grease from the pcb and your more like to get a successful solder joint.

You shouldn't need a soldering iron much larger then 15w for chipping.

pgmfi.org's guide to chipping assumes a level of knowledge most people don't necessarily have. Mind you, its probably better that way, there are alot of idiots in this world.

Well I just wanted to state for the record that my ecu's actually work to!.. It was the burner I was using ------ ---- up. ---- batronixs. Burn1 FTFW

i got down on my board witha 45w...think i burned anything up? more wattage means you get done faster....right :1 i guess it means you get to do it twice, i dont want to have to do this but one more time

Hope you don't solder ICs directly to the board with that huge bastard. ;D

I love my soldering station. Turn it down for an IC, crank the bitch up for injector wires, etc. Wasn't horribly expensive either.... If your going to do ---- like this often, its a great investment. And heat guns are just pimp.
