Default what's a good/reliable work P/U?

I've never owned a pick up truck in my life. I just took up a job that requires a pick up truck and lots of driving (150-200 mi/day).
So basically, something that isnt a gas guzzler and wont cost a lot to maintain.

I've been looking at Autotrader.com for trucks $7k-below.. 01 Ford Rangers with low miles, while Toyota Tacomas for the same price would be older and more miles.??

S-10's any good? suggestions?

S10 are pretty flimst trucks.Toyota's are great I have owned a few but you will pay more for one than any other brand.Nissan little trucks are generally pretty good as well.

I'd also say Nissan is a good value, but if you can spend more go Toyota. They run for a bazillion miles. My father in law has one, 1985, 250,000+ miles, owned since new, and still running strong.

thats what i hear from everyone and have seen it first hand quite a few time. Early model tacoma would be a nice one, but you can score the even older toyota pick ups for the cost of a full tank of Gas in an Escalade

Its gotta be a Toyota.
If u have to carry heavy stuff all the time, go with the late model 2.7 at least. 2.4s are crap
oh and get a 5 speed too, autos runs like ---- as well.
