However, our government feels obligated to subsidize their insurance to make it affordable. People who live in a hurricane prone area should NOT pay the same premiums as a guy in Montana.
you are correct. i have to pay outrageous flood insurance on my house because there is a creek behind it that NEVER floods and never has in the history of the world to subsidize ------s in new orleans who live under sea level

lol, what we are seeing now is not the collapse of a few banks or bad companies, we are looking at the collapse of the entire system, however according to the idiots behind the wheel the only way they can fix the problem is by adding more money into the system, thereby creating more inflation, causing more buisnesses to fail, they will need more money to bail them out, more inflation.... until the United States Federal Reserve Note (aka "the Dollar") is no longer the worlds reserve curency.

To the OP, stop playing the blame game, this is everyones fault, maybe more people will start paying attention to whats happening now.

Ehhhhh, can't say I agree with that. As long as ppl have to eat, the agricultural sector is not done. I work for a MAJOR agricultural equipment manufacturer, and our company is doing QUITE well this year, while ALL the other plants in the industrial park are shutting down and laying off anywhere from 100 to 500 employees....SERIOUSLY. I agree with Johnny on this one...I don't think either of the political parties can be blamed for the economic crisis that is occuring right now. I feel like it is the gov't as a WHOLE. I'm glad the 700 billion dollar "BAILOUT" didn't pass, but I see that they are scurryin' to REVISE the bill to where it can be passed. Bottom line is they wanna use OUR ------' money to bail out all these financial institutions and I for one think it's bullshit. I could give a ---- about NASDAQ or DOW JONES or WALL STREET or any of that other yankee, zoo york based BULLSHIT....Sink or swim ----------ers....I say let em sink....

Okay, agriculture. By dead I meant gone are the days when people can farm privately and make a decent living at it. Farming is done largely by big companies. The guys that farm privately are generally in poverty. Either that or they farm as a hobby and sell produce at flea markets. Now... that's just what I've observed.

I too am glad the bailout didn't go through. It would probably save my parents' house, but it's truly their own fault they mortgaged a $300k house 4 years ago, knowing my father's employment was iffy (self employed hvac man) and my mom's employment was non-existent. They took that gamble, but at least they have a fixed rate mortgage so they are squeaking by.

The only really private agriculture I see that's successful in my area is cattle. A lot of people around here, like my grandpa, have only a few cows maybe under 12. It's really just a hobby for him but he does make some money off cattle. Cattle and feed corn (where the corn stalks and all are ground up) I think are the only private really successful small private farms around here. Maybe the occasional huge family farm or something, but they are few and far between.

I live in south GA, and I know of SEVERAL successful private farmers in this area. Just because that isn't the case in ALL parts of the country doesn't mean that it isn't the case in SOME parts.

Agriculture is subsidized by the government, at least all the big players get money anyways, thats why the little guys have a tough time trying to keep up.

Anyway the government has basically decided that capitalism isn't working anymore so now they are socializing everything, thats what it means when they "bail out" a company like bear stearns and now have a controlling share of 80% of their stock, I just wonder how many other companies will be "Nationalized" by the end of the year.

If they were really interested in helping Americans they would be buying the actual home loans that are in danger of defaulting andgiving people a reduced rate( sort of like an FHA loan, basically a loan that is Federally insured) then you would keep people in their homes, reinstate confidence in the market and keep the rest of the house of cards thats built on top of this from falling down.

Personally I don't agree with that and think all of it should be allowed to fail, but if your determined to step in, at least do somegood, otherwise they will bail out the company that loaned the people money but those people will still be liable for said loan.
