Not that I don't trust any of you, but I'm reading conflicting views here, and I don't know any of you from Adam, so does anybody know where there's some sort of article or something that I could read about ignition tuning and the significance of EGT readings.

if running rich ***** up your engine anyway, why is it that the computer (on your car) is programmed to run rich in "limp (dick) mode".

I don't think that running rich is that bad for your car if you don't do it for very long. If you are always running rich though, you can mess ---- up.

running rich usually does a few things:
1. washing rings/cylinders if it's too rich.
2. saturating o2 sensors
3. plugging cats
the melting/burnt flex pipe is because the gas is backfiring/igniting from all the extra fuel in the exhaust.

from what i've came across so far it sounds like i'm on with just retarding 1/2 degree per pound of boost like i've been doing. i run a wideband daily and i know i've been running on the rich side, but the butt dyno feels like good power. just trying to extract the most out of it, but be safe at the same time.

So, if running rich is a bad thing, wouldn't you want to run more towards the lean side? Don't think so. You have to run richer in a turbo setup. Think of it this way: the burning air/fuel mixture in your cylinder acts like a torch...increase the oxygen content and you start burning through stuff;increase the fuel, and yes, it warms things up, but doesn't act like a blowtorch. If you have additional cooling around the cylinder wall, you decrease the temperature inside the cylinder itself, and decrease the "red hot" effect. It's a fine line of cause and effect.
