I like mustangs, and I like Subarus. I have driven both and now own a 2002 WRX. I can tell you the WRX is much more comfortable, 4 door, and is quick enough to keep up with v8 mustangs right out of the box. With little mods you can get to your goal. Now the WRX tranny problem is real, and will happen with abuse, ie. dropping the clutch at high rpm's, but I have not experience any problems yet.
The 05 wrx is supposed to get a few upgrades to the 02-04, pretty much the same except for the lights, and there was a rumor of a better tranny too.

Common look at this beauty

The '05 got a much better looking center console and Climate control, but still same tranny...

But dont let the tranny problem throw you off...

I think it happens mostly because people treat them like old honda trannies and dump the clutch.....bad idea on a 4wd car...worse idea on a wrx with LSD's. You really have to learn to let the clutch do the slipping and not the pinion gears.

As for new cars...

I have never been a fan of BRAND NEW cars. Think, would you pay 24k for a new '05 Rex off the lot or 19-20k for a low milage '03 or '02 one?

Anouther bad *** car that I test drove a while ago was a '03 VW GTI w/VR6 engine, and all options. It had heated leather seats, trip computer, climate control, traction control and was a 6 speed, and had stock 19" rims. It was fast too, and only 20k

I like your subaru Speedyjay. That's the only way to do it. When my brother gets tired of his GST he will probably go the route that you did, so whenever that time is, I'm gonna hit you up for advice.

It's just the bug-eye headlights that make me not want to own a WRX.

A good friend of mine had a '01 or '02 GTI VR6, it was a cool car. He got rid of it, took a big hit last year, like got 13k for it with around 50k miles. That was a pretty cool car, they can get very impressive with a turbo on them, fastest VWs since the superbeetles. I was with my brother in his '97 Eclipse GST and he spanked a VR6 tho.

So true in so many ways... Coming from a Honda world, learning how to shift correctly in this car, took me a little while. And yes dumping the clutch might break your tranny, but then again, any car is like that. The trans problem, is not really a problem if you know/learn how to do it right, you'll have no problems.

I paid 18k for my 02 with 23kmiles, and the owner kept this car mint, i have all the service receipts and records, even the original window sticker, he paid 27,500 in 2001. I saved 10,000, and he had every factory option, except for a moonroof, and added a few performance parts, short ram intake, bov, turbo timer and others. I would try to get one like that, low miles and save a lot of $$$.

That's what I love about mine. I could have purchased an 04, brand new, for a little more, well about 5k, but about the same payment, but I just really don't like the new headlights, to me they look like they came from a hyundai or kia. I like the bugeyes gives it a distinctive look. But there's always a big debate about this one. 02-03 owners usually dislike 04+, and viceversa. Either way, you'll get a great car.

Holy ---- you're a moron.FWD has traction? hahaha. 03-04 GTs are almost in the area of a stock LS1, and that isn't slow.

Side note, I'd go for thw WRX which i'm doing soon, AWD and Turbo is just too fun.

if those are your choices...WRX for sure. For a cheaper, just as nice/fun car with good mileage....
SRT-4. yep. I test drove one, sweet car, and for the price... a guy at the track has one, he has a BOV and thats it, he runs low 14's--and he has a warranty. not a bad way to spend 20G and they come with a stock system....I would consider it.

If that's the case, get any RWD muscle car aside from a mustang.
