help me choose what new car to get?

sorry to ask here but i don't know any other fourm i should go to that is bias between imports and domestics.
Well finally I need a real car. My 91RX-7 (sold) and my 91 Mustang(sold) were too crazy. Street Driving but sure aint street legal!!

right now i'm deciding on 04-05 subaru WRX!! not STI or a Mustang V8 04-05. I need a daily driver. I need a car that is nice and decent enough. I'm using to travel alot because my real home is 400 miles away and i would want to visit it oftenly or every weekend if my schedule permits.

-mike, give me pros and cons!! i would eventually make it hit 12.5 the most!

If those are ur only 2 choices, the decision is obvious, mustang = american trash... Youll get about 5 miles to the gallon when u get that thing to 12.5 to. Thats just my opinion though, not a big subura fan, i do like them though and they have many mods for them, itll be easier, more fun, more of an eye catcher, and id say cheaper then the tractionless slow v8 street princess.

I have seen a wrx with some mods beat corvettes by a car. But yet again my friends crx kills Sti's all day long with 230 hp. You could get a 92-95 civic hatch and put in a turbo b18 and wax people all day long and still get 25-30 mph on the highway. plus they look nice and ride nice.

Re:help me choose what new car to get?

naahhhh ;D i would love to do all that.

buttt....it's different now -- no modding no nothing. I need stock-ish cars.

I recent sold my 92 CX because i didn't really want to get involve with modding.

The V8 American car you talking about --- uses lesser gas in the real world driving. And is about 2-3000 cheaper than Subaru.

But i really like the WRX STI but i can't afford it. WRX are nice though. Comfortable cars. I'm really stuck on these two.

thanks for the replies

If you have the money to piss away on brand new factory cars.. why are you bothing asking advice from people who will most likely never drive either of them?

Enjoy your warranty and your new-car-smell. I think you're missing the concept of HMT.

just get a wrx then. it seems that you have your mind already made up. If you get the ford you will be disapointed with quality. I used to work at a dealership and we were alway fixing ---- on domestics. And the clutch is really heavy assuming that you get a stick. Plus they have rear wheel drive which sucks in the winter. Wrx has all wheel drive = never get stuck. plus you don't see alot of wrx's like the mustang. You know what you have to do. ;)

i have friends with both of these cars, and i would say get the wrx. it seems your leaning that way anyway. i know how u feel to not have to mod the ---- out of a car, but i say u should pick up something. im looking to get an A4, but i got another crx for 100 bucks, cuz i dont think i could go without something to work on.

Re:help me choose what new car to get?

i dont get if your willing to by a v8 mustang (which the cheapest one is a gt) there around 26,000-29,000 and the sti is around 28,000-31,000. The wrx is around 24,000-26,000, I mean i would go for the cheaper one the wrx, but if your just willing to go for a v8 on a mustang you should be willing to go for an sti which is faster. But you can go cheap with a wrx and modify it which should be around the mustang price plus less gas and hell alot cheaper than an sti. In other words go with the import ;)

The WRX is going to be more practical since it has more usable space and 4-doors. It also has a lot more punch then a 'stang out of the box.

However the tranny problems with the USDM EJ20 (a stop gap engine/tranny combo) have been really frequent with abusive driving

^^^^^^
A forum dedicated to Impreza trannys, read up and be weary of the pitfalls.

However if you are willing to turn a wrench the Impreza WRX will reward you more then any 'stang. Subaru/Fuji heavy Industries really practices the philosphy of KISS (keep it simple stupid) All of its engine/tranny combos from about '92 onward (well almost the SVX is a bit of an oddball) are interchangable with little modification. The boxer EJ series engine is notoriously easy to breakdown (once out of the car) and the suspension tuning out of the box is better then many aftermarket setups (KYB shocks come stock)

I recently just bought a '00 Impreza RS with just 27k on the odometer, after searching for a WRX. If you arent afraid of a little wrenching, then why not pick up a GC8 body and swap the engine or turbo the RS?

The GC8 is a much lighter body, and is a half liter more in displacement. THEY LIKE TURBO.....even with high compression. With a simple bolt on kit many GC8 bodied imprezas spank WRX's all day long, and still have trannies in one piece.

Turboing an impreza is really easy, the turbo piping is pretty much spliced in between the header and the mid pipe using an up and a down pipe...

http://www.uniquemotorsports.com/products/downpipe.htm

This guy Chad makes up and down pipes for the gc8 to bolt on a wrx IHI turbo. To top it all off I just like the looks of my older impreza better too

I mean come on bug eyes over that VVVVV

Re:help me choose what new car to get?

thanks for the replies people.

I just want a new car because I never did have a new car -- in my life!

The point is i don't really want to wrench anymore. If it's bought new it better not have problems!!

but i'll still research somemore until i can decide what car i should get. I may end up not even getting a sporty car.
