WTB 1.8L DSM Cyclone Head

Ok, i'm looking for a decent condition Cyclone head for a 1.8L DSM. For those that don't know, it has 12 valves instead of 8. Was more commonly found in 1ga 1.8 DSMs.

I'm in Michigan, so being in state would be a huge plus.

There is no such thing as a 12V head for a 4g61. There are 8's and 16's.

I think hes talking about the 4g37 found in base 1g's. Ive heard of a 4g63 cyclone but not a 4g37

16v?

Re: WTB 1.8L DSM Cyclone Head

4g61 = 1.8l
4g63 = 2.0l
4g64 = 2.4l

Interchangeablity between the 4g's is a tricky one. I now for a fact some ---- doesn't swap between 95-96, and 97-99.

The 1G 92-93 trannys are different from the earlier/later models and so on. DSM's are tricky business.

Re: WTB 1.8L DSM Cyclone Head

only 12v mitsu motors i can think of are:

83-89 g54b
85-88 g64b
87-89 and 84-88 carb'd g63b
91-95 4g15
85-89 carb'd g15b/g4aj

the 1.8 base dsm's came with the 8v 4g37 and the 4g61,63,and 64 are all 16v if my memory serves me right its impossible from what i hear to swap the 16v head on the 8v block. i used to own a 1.8 eclipse decent daily driver for 500 bucks.

I think hes looking for one of the jdm lancer 1.8 g62b heads cause they are the only 1.8 12v cyclone head motors i think mitsu made

Re: WTB 1.8L DSM Cyclone Head

1.8L = 4g37 (nvr heard of a 4g61)
2.0L = 4g63
2.4L = 4g64 (found in 2g spiders)

and there is such a thing as a 12 valve head. It has an extra jet valve on the intake side.

4g61 came in older mirages....some turbo some not

theres no 1ga dsm's with a 1.8 and a 12v head stock that i know of all ive seen was the 8v. like i said all ive seen for 12v 1.8 cyclone heads are the g62b's

jay does it say what cars they came in

ok so to run a 16v head on a 8v block you need lots of modification

but to run a 12v head on a 8v block you dont need ----?

buk9tp 09-19-2008 02:51 AM

Re: WTB 1.8L DSM Cyclone Head

that 12v head should be called a 9v head

cause each of those valves are not even a 1/4 valve :-p

zrCREAM 09-19-2008 04:10 AM

Re: WTB 1.8L DSM Cyclone Head

its barely enough to call it a valve.....its a :8 v head

Re: WTB 1.8L DSM Cyclone Head

What I'm suspecting is that this is what CYCLONE stood for - a 4G37 variation of the G32B - 1.6L that uses the MCA JetValve system that Mitz used in their earlier engines, especially for the Dodge Colt/Plymouth Champ hatchbacks that came out in the early 80's.

I knew it was based off a g-series motor

I'll tell the OP like I told Buk. You should just tear that ---- out and run a 6 bolt 4g63T and start raping ----------ers that even bat an eye-lash at you at the stoplight. 1G chassis are pretty light for that era vehicle.

Bitch, I'm a mystery wrapped in an enigma. I'm like Keyser Soze except more brutal. I'm like a 100lb pitbull that's been fed too much gunpowder. I am everywhere and nowhere all at once. Questioning me is downright suicidal man, pure and utter ownage seeps through my veins waiting to arise and envelop any soul foolish enough to attempt and expose me.

Actually, I live a bit North of BDV and JM. I don't think I've met them. I know a few dudes from this site and had the unfortunate fate of owning a handful of DSM's. I'm a welding student and turbo addict. Basic ----. Not a wigger though OMG.
