Checkout importreview.com and look at 1.8 dyno section. The spoon motors for the cost are horrible. The #'s don't lie.

Spoon engines aren't that great. They are made for N1 endurance racing, and are usually designed to last maybe 2-3 races. They are all top-end happy. Thats no fun. Spoon engines are waaaaaay over-rated. Just get a regular b16 or b18 and use the left over money on upgrades, you'll be happier in the end, unless you just want to have Spoon stickers all over your car.

if you just want the spoon stickers, all you have to do is get some spoon reservoir covers, then you can sport the stickers. i learned this in "ricer 101" ;)

I thought it was that you needed stickers to be able to run the part. Spoon logos, and then I can use the resevoir covers.

It's like what came first the rice or the part.

I might as well just go accord v6 in my EF to be different. ::)

Re:I need a Spoon Engine

Theres a guy my friend runs with in Bloomington Indiana with a spoon motor in his ITR, he has some big bucks in it.

Well it came dyno time and it pulled a whopping 191hp, 123 ft lbs of torque

BUT HEY revving to 9.5k is cool right

Re:I need a Spoon Engine

idiots

a spoon engine is nothing but a stock engine with a 2 layer headgasket that's be blue printed and balanced.

we had a guy bring one to a honda-challenge race and blow it. so, we all decided to take it apart. yeah, i busted out laughing at the guy after it was apart.

jdm=rice
rice=junk
therefore:
jdm=junk

Re:I need a Spoon Engine

How does JDM=junk? It's funny why people always use ITR or CTR cams in their B16 instead of using some american built cams like crower, JG or whathaveyou. But plain and simple you can build a badass motor from using stock JDM parts and funny why people would rather have a stock JDM ITR header instead a US DC header. Think before you type some nonsence. What do you have under that hood? Umm.. jdm b16 or what are you driving, from where?

Re:I need a Spoon Engine

JDM is mostly hype.

under my hood lies a USDM d16y8 turbo, converted to obd1.
I had a JDM b16, usdm b18b1, usdm b18c1 (hence GSRswapandslow 14.0 stock..sucked), a usdm h22a4, and several misc d series.

itr and ctr are used because they are CHEAP and easy to get a hold of.

most jdm parts have a USDM counterpart of eaqual or better quality for much cheaper. And don't give me JDM stuff is made better bullshit either. I've blown up and broke anything you can think of in my trials and tribulations with cars.

basically...jdm is rice. it's just as bad as big ass body kits, but much more rediculous. Who the ---- cares if you have a JDM flare kit? A parking antenna? JDM eh2 tail lights? JDM thin molding? What the ----? How is that NOT rice? it's there for looks and looks alone. that's teh same premise as a body kit. No one disagrees that body kits are rice, unless it's like...say a C-west or somet ---- from Japan..then it's God-like.

And you can have just as bad a motor using stock USDM parts. YOu just have to know what to look for and what to use. it's a shame it won't last though. Stock parts are weak sauce. And to make power, you have to buy parts. The best parts come from the US, hands down. From RLZ headwork to EF-1 cams. To Turbonetics turbos or precision turbos...what ever bandwagon you're on. I personally prefer Holset..cheap and good.

But you can't justify the whole JDM craze. It's just as bad as the mid 90's buddy club/veilside craze. It'll be over soon, and we can all go about our buisness as usual.

Re:I need a Spoon Engine

I'd hate to admit this and I might lose some friends over this, but I agree with you on that one. I don't think JDM is junk, but I don't believe it is any better than US parts. The people that go for the JDM body parts are going for looks while doing that, which is fine, but that doesn't mean the US door handles, valve stem caps, carpet, motor oil, and mirrors are junk either. Some people jump on the JDM bandwagon and go crazy over it just because it has a large following and that large following drools over JDM cup holders and window cranks. Don't be a JDM freak just because everybody else is(Honda-Tech).
