anybody in the NW want to help build me a turbo manifold?

Hey guys, I am working on boosting my 1986 Honda Accord.

Its a pretty simple setup, but the turbo manifold I have now will not give me enough clearance to run a downpipe past the block. I would like some help designing and/or building a new manifold for my car.

If anybody would be willing or able to give me some help I would appreciate it. Also if there is a better forum to ask for this sort of thing, could the mods move it for me?

modify the god damn downpipe, unless youre running a t3 with the flange mounted lengthwise with the car :1

Re: anybody in the NW want to help build me a turbo manifold?

there is no downpipe yet... all i have is a ram horn turbo manifold and turbo (turbo is t3/t4 57 trim .60/.63) bolted on. its a t3 flange mounted the 'normal' way. exhaust side of turbo is pointing towards the passenger side of the car like many other setups i have seen.

with the current turbo placement i'm not sure that there wlll be room... even if a build a solid metal front motor mount between the motor mount and the crossmember I don't think I will have a way to build a downpipe with a sharp enough angle... even if i 'could' it would probably flow like ----. so I am asking for the help/advice of some local people who can fab to help me out or toss some suggestions my way...

anyway i may just work on getting a simple log manifold going for the time being.
I may get pictures later, but I guess I am just wondering who in the portland area is able to build manifolds, I don't have the tools or experience necessary. :(

Re: anybody in the NW want to help build me a turbo manifold?

As you can see I have about 4.5" from where the downpipe will start, to the front motor mount (which I may need to build a solid mount to buy me a little more space).
The real problem I foresee is the 3" limit between where the downpipe will begin, and the block/oil pan. I might be able to get away with a 2.5" downpipe through there, but even with that, the angle will need to be pretty extreme.

I can probably get some better pictures that will make the situation a little easier to envision, but I will need to pull the rad which I didn't want to do this afternoon... :)

So looking at it without the radiator in the way, i 'might' be able to pull it off, with a creative downpipe... and notching the crossmember a bit...
You are probably right about the log manifold, but this one is already built, so if I 'can' use it, I would prefer to do so...

Suggestions?

Re: anybody in the NW want to help build me a turbo manifold?

WOW why didn't i think of that... ::) if they actually made a bend that looks exactly like that i would probably be ok, but as far as i know the radius is always a lot larger without serious pie cutting...

http://store.racing-solutions.org/mildsteel1010.html
looking at the available bends from this site it will be a tight fit...

obviously WHAT i need to do is easy to figure out. is it feasable, is it practical, is it going to be an impossible angle? that's why I'm asking for some input, I don't have any experience building this stuff...

its going to need a pie cut downpipe but looks do able. I have too do a motor swap in one of those accords next looks like a pain :7

what is the motorswap you have planned?

Re: anybody in the NW want to help build me a turbo manifold?

Yup. Pie cuts for the win..... Went that rout the first time we did the DP for my H22 setup. That or what I was thiunking maybe ro could scoot the motormount to the pass side on the x member and just either weld a lengthened braccket to get to the block.... orrrrr. build something like this:

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f4...Picture076.jpg

if you look just to the left of the manifold youll see a bracket we nmade that uses a threaded aluminum bar with heims in either end. IT ALLOWS LOTS more room, and would be a really simple fix just a bracket like on mine, then two pieces of 3/16-1/4 inch plate welded to the x member (id think about putting a piece of the plate on the XMEMber as well for strength. Drill holes through the two pieces you weld to the xmember for the bottom bolt and heim, and you have a sweet adjustable front mount, that will also help to make your motor torque around less and help any wheelhop issues a bit.
