Re: garrett ball bearing w/ pics CHEAP

tiny, haha, you only think its tiny. its made for a 2.3l 4 banger and wastegate is set at .6 bar. cant be tooo tiny. 2.5" inlet, 2" outlet. 2.5" stock downpipe..

Re: garrett ball bearing w/ pics CHEAP

It has the standard garrett flange and not the t3 type flange?

That's an awesome street turbo for a d series.

z1guy 05-24-2006 10:44 PM

Re: garrett ball bearing w/ pics CHEAP

i cant be sure what flange it is, the only manifold i have now is the one on my car, it looks to be a T3, but i would be lying if i said it is for sure.

I am a n00b with turbos but would this be too small for a gsr boosting at most 8psi

Re: garrett ball bearing w/ pics CHEAP

probably wont get you the HIGH dyno numbers most people look for, but the size is good for the street as boost comes on quick giving a broad tq curve.

What is that off of? This seems pretty tempting cause I think the brick's snail is going out. Post a pic of the inlet flange on the exhaust housing.

Re: garrett ball bearing w/ pics CHEAP

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that isn't a Ball Bearing turbo.

All the Garret BB turbos end with an "R" (GT25R).
Also, I think the GT25R is the smallest BB turbo Garret makes.

In case you don't believe me, check their spec sheet: http://turbobygarrett.com/turbobygar...t%209%2004.pdf
Page 13 (listed as 18 in PDF Nav)

And I think the GT17 has a T2 style flange. But I could be wrong on that one.

No sir, If you look at their site and their spec sheet, they have many journal bearing turbos. More than BB turbos in fact.

In case someone is too lazy to open the pdf...

Garrett Ball Bearing Turbochargers always end with an "R" as in GT28R. The R denotes the "rolling" element found in the
single cartridge, dual ball bearing design Garrett uses on all GT Ball Bearing Turbochargers contained in the Performance
Products Catalog.

Re: garrett ball bearing w/ pics CHEAP

thats interesting, cuz saab actually says it ball bearing as well. and no shaft play on any mileage usually is an indication of a ball bearing turbo.

That turbo came off the 99 Saab 9-5. Engine codes 205L and 205E. I suggest any potential buyers call saab themselves and verify if they don't wanna believe Garrett.

Re: garrett ball bearing w/ pics CHEAP

actually its not off any saab... its built by garrett for Saab 99-04 2.3l 9-5 aero or 2.0l 9-5 and saab specifically told me its ball bearing, its the whole reason it was bought in the first place. small motor quick spool (8psi at 2600rpm). potential buyers PLEASE VERIFY this is a ball bearing turbo if thats why you want it. do a google search if you want. garretts website doesnt list the GT17 at all so its no help.

Dbb turbos actually have a lot of shaft play even when they're brand new. I just reached into the 3065 I've got right here and confirmed this. The turbo has less than 4k on it, so I know it's good.

no they shouldnt, even w/ 4k miles on it, it could have been mistreated, overheated, etc. any ball bearing, in a turbo, hub bearing, etc, should have less than .030" of play. thats less than 1mm.
