FOR SALE: TD04HL-16T w/T3 flange ***PRE-EBAY PRICE REDUCTION
Mitsu TD04HL-16T with 6,802 miles on it. Originally spec'd for a Volvo V70R. Bought new from Japan and used on a Saab 900/9-3. Absolutely cherry unit with zero shaft play. Exhaust housing was ported and coated with Techline "Black Satin" 2000 degree ceramic coating. Unit will be removed from car in several weeks, as that's when the new engine and turbo are going in. I'm selling because I'm going a wee bit bigger: GT3071R. 8)
Price dropped to $400 shipped, slightly negotiable. The price is reflective of the quality. This isn't a sketchy salvage unit with questionable oil seals or "minimal" shaft play (which usually mean "wobbles like a drunken sailor"). It's not a rebuilt or refurbished unit like many of those on sale elsewhere, nor was it abused by some 17 year old who saw the "Fast and the Furious" too many times. Inlets and outles are stock Euro 60mm, which is between 2.25 and 2.50 inches. (2.5 inch hoses work fine when properly clamped.) These ICs are from "new-generation" Saab 900 SE models with stock boost of 9-15 psi and stock power output of 185 to 205 hp. ECU tuning usually brings boost up to 20-25 psi, so there's adequate cooling capacity there... |

It's significantly faster. The TD04s are primarily used in 2.0L-2.5L 4-cyl applications because of the fast spool, AND the abiliity to generate more than adequate CFM through the engine. I think it's something like 430-450 CFM for a TD04H (This unit for sale is the slightly larger TD04HL. The H or HL designates the dimension of the center section.) Saab used to use Garretts, but uses Mitsu units in the performance applications (9-3 Viggen, 9-5 Aero, etc). They're preferred over the non-ball-bearing Garretts for one reason: minimal turbo lag. Spool for a 16T is pretty quick by any standards. I hear the whine at 2,500 RPM, and full torque happens for me about 2,800-3,200 RPM and it stays there for a while then slowly drops off. I dynoed early last fall and I was about 300 ft/lbs WTQ (Only about 230 WHP, though....I had a fueling problem that created a suction in the tank and killed my peak HP numbers. Actual HP is probably closer to 250-260..) The T3/T4 used to be a popular upgrade unit for Saabs, especially the old-generation 900 guys. The T3/T4 .60 trim has a higher top end, but some feel that's offset by the slower spool. |
