It is an S-video connector, but it is just used as a quick connect for a composite video signal, sound, and power all wrapped up in one convenient plug.

can i go from my cd player to the dvd player and use my cd player for all my normal use and just use the dvd player for use with the video screen? i know that makes no sense, but i want to use the dvd player and have full sound out of all the speakers, and keep my cd player that i have now for when im not using the screen

Yes I understand what you are saying, that is exactly how I had it set up in my old car :) You only need to turn the DVD player/LCD on when you want and it can interface with your existing stereo's input.

Just hook it up to a 12V power source and ground :)

One more cable if you want to hook it up to your stereo.
