**Doing wrinkle/flat valve covers**

Well I bought the stuff to redo the valve covers on both Del Sol's and lude. I have plenty left over so if anyone wants theirs done I'll do it for $25 you cover shipping. It took me about 4-5hr's to do each not including drying times.
Here are a few before and afters. B16 done in wrinkle black Attachment 18831 Attachment 18832 D15 in gunmetal non wrinkle Attachment 18833 Attachment 18834 Here is another B16 one I just got to work on. We'll see how it turns out. Attachment 18835 Here is is drying up. There is some shitty lighting in my room sorry. Attachment 18836 Not a valve cover, but a good picture of the actual wrinkle on my 360 Attachment 18837 Just done 7/29/08. Spruced up the "new" EK valve cover. Color came out brighter than I though. Gunmetal metallic. Attachment 18838 Attachment 18839 Attachment 18840 |

Re: **Doing wrinkle/flat valve covers**
Care to share some info? How do you sand the raised parts down without fear of scuffing the rest? I tried and fucked up.
|

Re: **Doing wrinkle/flat valve covers**
Time. I spent probably 2-3 hours getting it totally cleaned and polished. I should have took more pictures after I cleaned the rest of the bay. Oxidation/oil/dirt over 10+ years is a bitch to get off.

Re: **Doing wrinkle/flat valve covers**
Time and what product? Or did you just use a wire wheel? I thought about cleaning mine up but if it's that involved, I'll keep it dirty.

Re: **Doing wrinkle/flat valve covers**
Help a brotha out. How do you sand down the raised parts easily? Dremel or some fancy sanding block?
|
Re: **Doing wrinkle/flat valve covers**
I'm guessing he does it by hand...
A little HJ action |

A little HJ action There really isn't any secret. I'm sure anyone could do it, but by time you buy all the materials to do it right and your time it's more than what I'm charging. |
Re: **Doing wrinkle/flat valve covers**
He was asking about how to get the raised, i.e. vertical letter sides smooth.
|
Re: **Doing wrinkle/flat valve covers**
when i did mine i just painted it all....while it wasnt fully died i took a razor blade and scraped it off...looked nice since it all came off even....just like when u peel the tape off the still semi wet paint. Masking didnt work for me since i sucked @ laying it down and trimming it.
|
Re: **Doing wrinkle/flat valve covers**
She's supposed to trim it before you lay it down

Re: **Doing wrinkle/flat valve covers**
I know that's what I was talking about. Does he mean to get the paint off or glossy/shiny other than the factory cut/swirl marks? To get it shiny/glossy just be ready to polish your ass of and use some metal polish afterwards. On the B16 covers I probably spent a good 1/2 shining the letters up. I did it once I already stripped all the paint off though. I wouldn't recommend trying it with paint on because it will make the paint looks hazy/scratched.
You could use a buffer type wheel, but for me I have gotten better results by hand. To do it right you need to get stripper, degreaser, cleaner, really fine grit paper 2-3k, metal polish, primer, paint, clear if you want it glossy, painters tape (get the blue stuff, the regular tape will leave glue residue and pull chunks of paint with it), and set up a mock paint booth. If you get one little bit of dust in there when it dries it will stand out like a mountain. |

Just to be clear, I'm talking about the DOHC and VTEC, the H emblem and the Honda word. You mask that off prior to painting? Or do you remove it after you've painted? |
Re: **Doing wrinkle/flat valve covers**
who the hell ships a valve cover in a shitload of packing peanuts?
