Hey my AC adapter for my laptop took a ----. But anyways the one that i got with my laptop the output is 19V and 3.42A I then bought a CHING CHONG MEOW AC adapter that was described as the exact same but they sent me something different. The output on the chines one is 19V and 4.74A , My question is can i use this with my laptop even with a high amp rating. I searched some people said that it will only draw the amps it needs and that voltage is the only thing that matters. I figured one of you guy might know. Thanks alot

 

True story, the adapter is capable of up to 4.74 but it will only actually put out as much as the laptop draws in.

Also 19v sound like it might be a DELL. dells have an extra voltage built into the adapter to verify it is a genuine dell adapter. The ching chongs can probably copy this, but if not it may not let you charge the battery.

 

19volts is 19volts, I will work fine. You can be undersized on a power supply but not over.

 

Its for a gateway laptop, the other thing that i don't no about it this one doesn't have a ground its only a 2 prong and my stock one had 3 prongs. But what ever i just hooked it up and it seems to be working fine hope my ---- doesn't fry LOL. thanks for the info

 

your household line is good for what, 200amp? your laptop draws maybe 1-2 amps off of the plug into the recepticle in the wall. youlll be fine higher amperage rating = better, when you start crankin on the laptop you theoretically have less of a voltage drop and strain on the supply

 

A normal household line is 15 amps. But that is at 120V ac. Let's say you drop that down to 19V through a transformer. You have about 95 available amps. In reality you would drop this a bit lower since the voltage increases through the rectifier. Then there are losses...but still. There are a lot of amps available keeping the power the same...not that any of this will matter.

Your adapter is fine. It should be 16,524 amps and be fine (although huge). 19V is key.

amps dont matter, all lithium ion batts have a chip that only lets it charge at an acceptible rate. cheap chinese batts dont have those chips thats why they have that nasty habit of bursting into flames.

 

im talking about the main line coming in, breaker box is usually 150 or 200amp unless you are trailertastic and then you get a 100amp

 

be surprised, still alot of 60 amp services out there.
