My bro was in Mississippi last week when something similar happened, the birds took out both engines and the pilot landed the plane on the water.

I can't believe those engines are so fragile a bird could take them out. And look at that... birds are everywhere. Cant put a screen or something in front of the engine? :/

A screen would hurt efficiency too much and have to be too large. Gas turbines are very fragile. They are spinning at tens of thousands of revolutions per minute, with some pretty extreme tolerances. There really isn't anywhere for bird matter to go during a strike. It destroys more than you would think. Also, to be light enough to fly these things have a pretty low factor of safety.

It's cool that the pilot was so calm. He acted more calm than I've seen others who have a blowout...

"hey, good morning, mayday y0! oh and did you see that attendant? i'd like to tap dat ***"

I was watching vids about the crash that killed nearly 300 by halifax on youtube, shitty

Then that progressed to the videos about flight 93 and the lack of any debris whatsoever...interesting plane crash :P
