Default help me engine knocking dont know where??

okay so heres the deal...my buddy and i were driving my hatch and a wrx pulled up next to us...he was revving his engine and wanted to race so i downshifted to 3rd and smoked him...right after the race my car started over heating so i drove it back to my buddies house about a mile away from where we were...as i got into town i heard knocking coming from the engine....after we pulled in to the drive way i popped the hood and looked around...to my surprise i saw oil all over from my turbo...i looked closer and saw that the oil feed line was disconnected...then i checked the dipstick for oil and saw none...so i added about 2 1/2 quart of oil into the engine and tightened the oil feed line...i went back to start up the car hoping that the knocking was gone...but nope still there...so where the hell is the knocking coming from....my head?? rod bearings?? hopefully nothing expensive because i just bought the motor 2 weeks ago freshly built...

rebuilt by who?
oil feed disconnected leaves me to believe bottom end bearings. Did u over rev or anything? Or did u just notice the oil feed disconnected after it overheated?
Something makes me think it was a shitty rebuild

why post even? you know what happend your ---- was loose you drove home and had no oil. what do you think it is.

Dont worry grab a fresh crank from a machine shop get you some new bearings and slap a new bottom in it. 250 bucks or so and your all done, I'd Mic the rods and make sure your cool while you got it apart.

thats's what you get for racing a wrx.

he gets to go home and replace his turbo now, though, so in the end it works out

It doesn't sound like the rebuild was the problem. It was the installer who didn't tighten the fitting properly.

No ----.

You lost almost all the oil in your engine. What did you think was going to happen?

My vote goes to rod knock.

Did you learn your lesson of why oil is importaint?

Good way to check on the quick, drop oil pan. Tap rod caps (HARD) with a hammer. If one sounds different than the rest, that one is spun.

If you notice no difference, you probably have rod knock anyway and should tear down the motor. Rebuild the ---- yourself this time and do a good job. You know what, you WILL do a good job because after tearing it all apart, spending all that money, having murpheys law punch you in the **** and taking forever to get it done will make you so paranoid, little things like tightening a oil line will be your compulsion.

Rod knock. Drop you pan and pull your rod caps. It'll tell a true story.

sounds like a rod bearing because my friend had the same problem he ran out of oil and it knocked also so he gave me the motor because i needed some stuff so i take it apart and look at the rod bearings and there was like no bearings left on a couple rods so there goes the crankshaft.
