Who is running MegaSquirt?
I run MS2E with an EDIS 4 ignition system on my 99' miata. It works. For us miata people, MS is the best bang for buck ECU option. No it's not the best ECU on earth. But it runs the car and allows me to tune it. Doesn't do everything. But it does enough that I'm satisfied. Only thing that "sucks" is the EBC. It does open and closed loop, but both suck. Open loop you set DC duty cycles for the valve. This works, but then boost is a function of ambient temps. It has closed loop EBC, but apparently the code is wrong so it's impossible to dial in the P, I and D for it.
Tough-gay, considering this is HMT, I think you got lucky that Pat found your thread and gave you a well thought out answer. You must be doubly lucky as I agree more or less with what he says. Additionally :
MS2 advantages :
good accuracy
active development still
MS2 disadvantages :
not enough IO
bad PID code as mentioned (fixed in new release soonish apparently)
delicate ports not isolated from external systems (ms1 could push 20mA per pin, ms2 is about 4mA)
MS1 :
just a toy, unless you want low specific power output (big ugly v8 drinking air through a straw) at which point it is OK, but still not great.
I have ms2 on my ute and although I didn't use it for long, I did get it running and running pretty well very quickly.
