Default I need some a/c help

does anyone know how to get a seized a/c compressor to spin? it doesn't need to work, but just needs to spin
it's on a 93 taurus and the serpentine belt cannot be routed without going around the a/c (unless a custom idler and bracket is made, but screw that, it's not my car)
any suggestions outside of replacing the compressor?
thanks

If the clutch is disengaged it should spin freely unless you have some major problems.

If the button for the A/C is in the off position it should be disengaged unless it is stuck for some reason. If it is, try beating the ---- out of it with a hammer. Serioulsy, try hitting it a few good times and make it unfreeze. It's not like you're going to hurt a broken compressor.

sounds like a plan, it will be next week before i can mess with it though
thanks for the info
worst case scenario, if the hammer doesn't do it, then we'll have to get a used compressor which is like $70

Hmmmm....when the compressor is not engaged it should act like an idler and it should be completley disconnected from the actual compressor so you shouldn't have a problem. Good luck.

therein lies the problem... motor off and the pulley will not spin, the car's not running because it seized and burned through the serpentine belt :P
