Default New solution to Blowing Couplers

Ok so im ------- around in the garage, and this hit me.

What you need, is

Standard 3 or 4 ply coupler
Home depot style clamps... bar and plate work, but the point is now you don’t need them
Electrical tape

What ya do is place the coupler on the pipe, and wrap it with the electrical tape. I went around the coupler 20 times..

Then ya put the crappy clamp on and it holds great..

I tested it on a smooth piece of aluminum charge pipe i had left over... The tape by it self held good to 40psi, and at 60 started to slide, and eventually blew off..

I haven’t tested what the holding pressure is with the clamp on yet, ill get to that latter tonight.

The whole reason i started trying it was, because my bar and plate clamps always got maxed out before it was really tight, so i out some electrical tape around it to make the circumference bigger...

It holds good to 40psi, with just the tape, and held 65psi for over a minute with the clamp and held 80psi, for10 seconds......not to many of ya if any are boosting over that... so give it a try..

This is exactly what I was thinking. Adhesive tends to get soft and gooey when it is hot and will actually cause an area of slipping for ya.

Not to mention cleaning after the heat gets to it and you have to weld the pipes
