Default "noob question inside" 1990 civic hatch

i was looking in to getting a civic to play with and i found a 1990 civic hatch with a blown head gasketfor $500 with a 5 speed is it worth it?
howmuch will it cost for the new head gasket?
and is this a good foundation for a future turbo build?

yeah to bad the guy sold it before i could get ahold of him (found it on craigslist) but i have been eyeing up a 1994 civic coupe that some old lady owned since new for $1200 (only 93xxx miles, and a 5speed, or a 1993 sedan with an h22 swap i found for $1500 (the sedan is nice but it has a body kit and i hate body kits they are so ricer)

H22's make for fun semi cheap power, offer him 1000cash and hit up ebay for new front and rear bumpers. h22 4 door ftw!
