Default Question for dog owners

For some reason, my dog always howl like a wolf when hes left alone in the house and he likes to "talk" with some weird toned howling when he has "needs" like wanted snacks/water bowl is empty / hungry . he don`t bark that much either
Does any of your dogs does that or my dogs just weird, he don`t respond/interested to any dogs either

what is the breed? lots of dogs are naturally vocal. howling when alone would be seperation anxiety, pets do get it.

Howling is either defense, or they want something. I have two clumber spaniels. Extremely desirable hunting dogs, they will bark or howl at other dogs, squirells, birds, any thing in my yard that moves basically. They will also bark or howl when they dont get their way or if they want something. Some dogs get spoiled and will bark and howl when they dont get enough attention. Not really a serious problem if your open to getting more pets, try getting the dog a companion like a cat or another dog. Hope i could help. Thanks.

Looks like a Chow/golden retrever mix to me. Goldens do have a habbit to "talk" like you say yours does. Its perfectly normal and in most cases getting another dog won't help. If you have had him since he was a month old, he has imprinted you as his care taker very quickly unlike when you get a older dog it takes a lot longer. I'm a dog trainer and I get that question a lot. As long as he's not barking or being distructive when you leave then I wouldn't worry about seperation anxioty. Hope it helps!

My dog has a similar problem, she's really ------- territorial like that...especially when people she doesn't recognize walk down the road infront of my house. I wake up almost every morning to my dog barking/howling at old people walking down the street.

If I had to guess, that dog is lab/chow mix.
My husky was very vocal. She wouldn't bark, but she would howl. If another dog barks, she would howl. If she heard a vacuum, siren, or trash truck she would howl too. She would howl so long that she probably forgot what she was howling about in the first place.

My one dog (lab/husky mix) usually howls when I leave her inside and I go out to the garage. Other than that if she sees another dog or a cat or squirrel in the yard she usually does a low tone woof. My pug on the other hand yaps at anything that moves. :P
