Default Rained Out = Fishing Trip!

Well, it's raining here in North GA. Not a lot but enough to get some cancellations. What does a detailer do with a full day and no kids or wife?..............

Most of you know that I'm an avid trout fisherman. I simply love it. I spend about 5-8 hours a week in the local river here (Toccoa). It's not uncommon to catch 50+ 8-12 inchers in a full day. Rainbows and Browns are the most common. Something happened today that was simply amazing. I took a few casts and got nothing. I was about to head upstream when..........BOOM! With only two turns on my reel of a 60 foot cast, a monster struck. It jumped completely out of the water.......an easy 6 inches high. I fought it for almost 20 minutes and this was on heavy tackle.

The verdict.......
23.2 Inches long and 5.5 pounds. The largest recorded in this river in 5 years!!!

Here's the pics. I hope some of you all enjoy this. Boy did I!!!

It's a female by the way.

what weight line do you use? I like using real light line to catch bigger fish, makes it more fun, set the drag perfectly and try to bring em in without breaking the line. When i was younger id use like 20lb line to catch 1-2lb fish and reel them in so quick id practically pull them out of the water. But i've since learned challenge is fun at times.

I use braided Shakespere 10lb test line. Strong and is the equivalent diameter of 6lb mono line.

I'm telling you, I mainly only hunt Brown trout. They are just so vicious! Hell, look at it's teeth!

around here the "Brown Trout" that are in the waters are not something you want to catch.

I went fishing in a "Stocked" pond once and I can say that it sucked. All you had to do was cast in the vicinity of the water feed and you would hook fish like literally every 10 minutes or so. 3 of us fished for 45 minutes and had around 50 pound of fish. I wasn't fun after like 20 minutes cause there was no challenge at all.
