I couldn't pass up the deal (working pearl in good shape for 60 bux). The only problem is that it's for T-mobile, and I have Cingular. I've never unlocked a phone in my life and wanted to know if anyone here has unlocked a pearl. I looked a bit on google and found out that you need to get an unlock code from T-mobile. Is there a different unlock code for each phone, or is there just one universal unlock code for it? I was also curious if the google maps and internet functions will work after I get it unlocked and switch it over?

 

go on ebay, search "blackberry pearl unlock," pay the person, send your imei, and wait for the unlock code.

Uhh you still have to put it in yourself.

You can TRY calling Tmobile for the unlock code, but don't be too surprised if they don't give it to you. They are called "subsidy locks" because the phone company gives a "subsidy" when you purchase the phone at the discounted rate and have to sign the contract so they get their money back.

Have you tried calling Tmobile for the unlock? It would have taken less time than creating this post.

 

The phone is being shipped to me early next week, so I'm just trying to figure this out before it gets here. From what I've read, you can get the unlock code from t-mobile if you've been with them for like 90 days at least, or some ---- like that. My brother's been w/ em for years, so I figure I could have him call if i need to. But if there's a universal unlock code and just skip that entire step completley, that would be pretty sweet

 

There is no universal code.

I suggest calling tmobile, saying that you need to use the phone outside the country and need an unlock code for it.

 

That's what I'm gonna do. I also found the procedure to enter the unlock code after a bit of searching too. Would you know if I could go into cingular and change my data plan around so web browsing functions would work on the new sim after it's unlocked?

 

I would check online either at blackberry or cingular for the user manual, and see what the settings should be set to. Cingular online support section should have the settings and directions listed somewhere. I haven't fooled with the pearls too much so not sure if you can edit the settings, but i'm sure you can because they have a ton of settings you can edit.
