Default got the pulley bolt off, here's the old pump. engine is fubar

i gotta change my oil pump, and like most import pumps its behind the damper pulley. how do i safely lock the ---- up? can i just feed rope into the plug hole, remove the cam, and just start wrenching on it? i want to hydrolock it, but my dad says no, i'm gonna snap rings and ----... rope seems like the best option

filled #1 cyl with some rope, worked like a charm.

has some surface rust like it sat on a shelf with no dessicant paper, and not in a bag for a while. also looks like it was never primed properly

well, turns out that my timing cover has a crack behind the water pump, it was pryed NOT BY MEfrom the engine with a chisel that took a huge chip out of the oil feed to the crank/head, so i was pissing oil/coolant slush all over my inner fender. while running, before oil/water mix, my rod bearings are all apparently fucked.

woohoo! noose time

You can use rope, it works good and wont wreck anything. I would make sure its on its compresson stroke so no valves would be open, just in case.

it's a 4x4 toyota. i'm not pulling the motor to pull the pan to break one bolt to remove something that doesn't need an engine removal

nono, you don't just find 22r blocks anymore. the 16yo ******* that throw 6" lifts and 31" tires on them redline them all and ---- the blocks up, or destroy the internals with a honda like redline, then scrap the block, and repeat the next month
