For the last two years iv used NIS and its done a really good job. Its just blocking alot of my stuff latley and i have to keep re writing the rules im tired of it what do you guys use whats good and defnitley whats free.

maybe that's what the hacker wants you to think :P you should run adaware, guaranteed you got a ---- load of spyware on there

read faster.

 

I've used a varity of products. For a home user, my favorite product is NOD32 which is $39 a year. You can get it at nod32.com, it does everything in one.

As an extra layer, I also use Windows Defender since you can schedule scans with it. Sure, Adaware and Spyware Blaster are great but I've never had them find anything that the Defender \ NOD32 combo could not.

I've deployed Symantec's enterprise product on a few customer networks. Its okay for small business, but it isn't my preference.

 

hah, I run ad-aware on occasion, and I rarely have anything, if I have anything at all.

What's a hacker going to do ? Steal my pirated video and music and use the connection I ganked from the neighbors?

If you use common sense and firefox, you won't really run into any problems. Run a linux distro and you're even safer.

Have been running my comp firewall/antivirus free since windows 95 and have never had a problem. Only tool I use is adaware and I don't even use that since I've switched to firefox.

 

Since I have ---- on my computer that I wouldn't want someone to grab, I assume that some out there may one day get the best of my system so I choose to still use a firewall and AV.

 

The only ---- I use is the built in firewall in my router. Other than that no apps or windows firewall or anything. The only problems I've had have been self created (trying to get keys for pirated software by running a "generator" which installs a bunch of ----, etc).
