I have $1050 burning a hole in my pocket right now. Based on experienced feedback I'm waiting for in an electronics forum, I'll either save another $200 for a sweet Tektronix TDS2004B scope, or go with one of the less expensive equivalvent Agilent or GW Instek units. 60Mhz, 4 input, color screen, USB interface, portable battery option, 5 lb pieces of plastic FTW.

 

I want to grow up to be just like you JD.

 

What do you think about the Instek GOS-6103's How do they compare to the tektronix

Only reason im asking is because we have one here at the shop...and since im illiterate in the EE world, i'd be nice to know if im dealing with decent equipment....

 

It's not as useful to me, I need something different, but it is a pretty solid piece.

I have zero interest in analog scopes.

 

We use a textronix digital scope in work. Along with various other 20mhz scopes. Unless you want to analyse digital signals (we use the digital scopes for HDMi) the cheaper analogue scopes are good enough. The storage and triggering options are fiddly but seriously useful.

I suppose alot of your reasoning is, the tektronix items are portable. Which for working with cars is a godsend. I work with hifi, as a rule it's stationary. I'd be tempted to buy a cheap scope for the workbench (second hand and old). And one for working in/on cars.

Good idea about keying it to a position sensor. Of course, honda already have them fitted
