Can anyone that lives in the Bethesda/DC area tell me what traffic is like on 495. I'm moving out there soon and was looking at the Silver Spring area, but I dont want to cheap out if its going to be a struggle to get to school every day. I would be commuting from SS to the national naval med center about 9mi distance.

 

It is ------- hell

 

I use 495 every time I go from Camp Lejeune to home and back and its never been to bad for me.. I'm not sure when the bad times of day would be but I've been through most times of the day, mabey I'm just lucky though.

 

its not bad if you know what times to travel but 3/4 of the time it can lick my nuts!!

yo man, pm me if you ever got questions about the dc area. grew up here my whole life. the beltway isn't that bad if you know the times to travel on it. if you get stuck in rush hour you are fucked however. But the traffic never actually stops, it just rolls along at like 10 mph.

When you get on the beltway at a good time its even scarier though because you MUST do 80 to keep with the flow of traffic. people will literally flick you off for doing the speed limit

 

I'll put it this way...

Thursday I had to go to Baltimore for surgery. I live in northern VA. Took an hour to get there between 6 and 7am. On the way back, leaving at 4pm, it took 3 hours.

Thanks for the reply's guys, I think Im going to get a place in Bethesda untill I learn the town, i found one for 1900 a month. I'll move out to the cheaper areas once I get my bearings.

 

you better rethink the word CHEAP in this area the most hood ------- efficency apts. go for a G a month in fairfax county.. its great for money but shitty for high priced living but as they always say you cant have your cake and eat it too
