Default turbo mx6 project

ive had my 91 mx6 turbo for a few years now, it ran a 15.3 with a few bolt ons, boost cut chip and boost controller (5800' of altitude) my buddy (KLT-mx3) talked me into throwing a grand national on it. so about a grand later, we got it all in and running pretty good

we took the stock turbo manifold and whacked the studs off, then welded on a t3 flange. the grand national turbine housing wouldnt have worked out the way we wanted it to, so i threw a 5 bolt ford .63 housing on it. here's a few pics with just the turbo mounted, still on stock ic piping. with a few adapters, we were able to utilize the stock oil feed and drain as well

i bought a used evo 8 intercooler, dsm bpv, a few 2.25 mandrel bend pipes, silicone and t bolt clamps

for fuel i have a aem wideband. im running an aftermarket fpr at ~22psi, 4:1 fmu (with bleeders to tune) 460cc rx7 injectors, they dropped right in

i'll have completed pictures of the engine bay up soon. for now, thats all that's worth seeing of the car, the paint looks terrible haha. as of now i cant hear any detonation at 18psi. i dont have any means to control timing, so im keepin my a/f ratios in the 10's during full boost. compression is 7:1 and im at high altitude so it shouldnt be a problem. motor is stock and has 210K miles, still with good compression

hopefully i will be running ~23psi and race gas to lay down some good numbers. im hoping to be up around 300whp and to be running mid to low 13's at high altitude. its been my first project, and it has been pretty nerve wrecking at times, but im happy to see its all together and running good now.

thanks for comments

i have one vid, its 18psi on an old crappy wastegate that's flapping open early, i wasnt hitting full boost until 5K rpm so its not nearly as fast as it is now, i'll get a better vid here soon once i get the a/fs tuned

heres a few more pics. body pics are old. im getting some bodywork done on it now, and hopefully will be painted by the 1st week of august. i'll bump this thread when i get her painted

as for the turbo project, heres the last few pics. im planning on making some changes to the hot side of the turbo. im hitting full boost too late even with my new wastegate. the turbine itself seems to be different from that of a normal t3, so first im going to swap it out with a 60 trim turbine, and if that doesnt do the job, i'll go down to a .48 turbine housing

well just an update, i finally dyno'ed the setup and the peak numbers look pretty good, but area under curve is definitely lacking

dyno'ed on 20psi, stock ecu w boost cup chip, 91 octane

something is wrong with the head in this motor, but it has 210K miles on it. oil is leakin on to spark plug #2 and its getting hotter than normal, but compression is still good so i dont think i have any cracked ring lands.

im having some lag issues with either the turbine setup on the turbo or the exhaust, but im not hitting full boost until around ~4.5-4.8K rpm depending on the gear. im going to be selling this setup to drop in a fe3 (16v 2.0) and turbo it

going to the track next week and hoping for 13s
