Default Resigning from Job and vacation time pay ?

Well I'm going to put my notice in at the begning of August and quit my job and move. I've asked some coworkers about if I will get paid for my vacation time I haven't used. Some say yes, some say no. Isn't it common practice to get paid for it ? I work for the county government, I don't want to ask the boss than he will know I am going to leave soon. I thoguht it was common practice to get paid for your vacation, but the sick time you usually get nothing.

You should get your vacation pay. Call human resources.
Officially put in your resignation in writing and give it to your boss and human resources.
If they want you gone the same day, that is their choice, but the vacation time is accrued by you already.

If you are a temp then you are screwed.

I have about 120 hours of vac time. I will be giving them a month notice, put it in begning of August, and leave at the end. I will call HR and see what they say.

are you leaving on a negative terms or just moving. ----, if it were me, id take the vacation now...start your moving process...etc. etc. then about 3 days before the vacation ended...go in there and let them know you will be leaving on xxx day. You still get your vacation, they won't fire you and ---- you on your vacation hours...can't go wrong with it.

that would be my option

I'm leaving on good terms. I would take the time off, but basically only two people are allowed to be off at a time, and pretty much the next month two people are on vacation at all times...so I can't get to use my time off between now that than....I would like to take the pay for the vac time..
