Default Turbo in: Now working out the Kinks

Im running a d16z6 with a t3 440s and p28 uberdata , everthing is installed but got a couple of questions, see if you guys can help me

1. We cant get the boost to go up, I have a external wastegate the SSAC that i have no idea what its set at, probly the normal 3.73 or some ---- like that, and i have a voodoo manual boost controller, the **** is tuned almost all the way in and the boost hasnt really changed. Its real low and im trying to get to 10psi. Do we have the vaccumm wrong, We have the external wastegate with vaccum going fromt he top nipple on the wastegate to the MBC, then going from the MBC to the intake manifold, and a T in there for the BOV and Bosot gauge, The external wastegate does have another vaccumm spot that i just closed off cuase i didnt think i needed it, is that the problem. This car was turbo's before but with a internal wastegate.

2. It wasnt throwing any codes or CEL's until like the 7th test drive, it throws a code 9, this is in a 92 hatch by the way, which is a crank angle sensor, we swaped ecus and still did the same thing, reset it and it still does the same thing?

3. Im not sure if this sounds right but at idle the boost gauge reads between 10 to 15 vaccumm? Sound right?

Thanks for any input guys.

1) Run it on the lower port of the wastegete and make sure you have the lines on correctly. Should be vaccum source to MBC (into the straight part that is inline with the ****), then out to lower port of your WG.

2) Not sure, sorry. Crank angle is new to me. Crank position; however, isn't. If you changed the HG or anything like that be sure of your work and that the CPS (Crank Positioning Sensor) is in the right spot and connected.

3) 20mmHg is about right, 10-15 seems pretty low.

I accept PayPal.

Just kidding, only.....not really. Should be it though I'd assume, because top is for EBC and what not or some crazy stuff that is stickied above. Do it like I drew and you should be boost happy, oh and make sure to back that MBC out all the way before you put it on the lower part, set on the gas and hit 23psi and pop your motor.

Whoa whoa...hold on a sec. The bottom line on your wastegate is your reference line...you have to hook a line up from your turbo to that port or else the wastegate will never open. I think the only thing that saved you is you were probably pulling vaccum on the top port and never let it close. Now to run your mbc off the intake manifold, do it this way so you don't have vaccum opening your wastegate...

Now the bleeder T should only have a small hole, you want to bleed off some of the boost recirculating back to the top of the wastegate and also leave a path for the air to escape from once the wastegate does open. Also remember with this setup your bmc settings will be different. With the controller fully closed so no air can go through will give your stock wg spring pressure. Open the mbc slowly, too much and you may spike much higher than you want to.

you can run the lines off the wastegate either way. I have mine running from the turbo to a MBC and then into the bottom vacuum port on the wastegate. I left the top port on the wastegate open to the atmosphere. The spring in my WG is 9psi and I am holding 17 all day long. It only lets the wastegate see X amout of boost and keeps it from opening a bit longer. I don't get any boostcreep at all and it holds strong. I tried running it the other way but didn't have any success. Maybe my MBC just doesn't like it like that.

It'll work fine like that if it's a spring and ball-valve type mbc, like the "grainger" mbc. I personally prefer the bleeder type mbc on these wastegates. Made mine from the home depot brass plumbing isle for less than 5 bux

Look at what MBC is in my drawing, Voodoo. Guess what kind of MBC it is? Ball and spring. It's right. What you prefer and what he HAS are two different things. If he can't connect a MBC right do you think he's going to do your style hook-up or mine? Keep it simple. I mentioned the stickie above also, but that it's pretty wild (the write-up that mimics your idea). No trying to be e-thug, just want to get this kid an easy answer because I remember what it was like to read those drawings like they were in Arabic.

Thank you stickman.

Poopadoop, just do what I said and drew and what stickman references to doing on his set-up as well. Nothing wrong with slow_crx1's way, just feel it overcomplicates this.
