Default Vx Tranny ID

I bought a low mile VX motor but the tranny looks like it's older on the outisde than the motor. I'm guessing it's not a Vx tranny but is there a way I can figure this out without just throwing it in my car and driving it?

And yes, I know the Vx tranny is SLOOOWWWW. I want it for fuel economy only. This is a car I drive at least 2 hours a day and right now I'm loving the mileage the 238k mile tranny is giving me. I just wanted to make sure this is a good extra Vx tranny b/c otherwise, I want to buy another as a backup since I know hondas don't last forever...and especially the trannies from my own experience.

It still has the little barcode sticker attached to the outside/top-front, so I guess that could help. Thanks!

Damn...so I guess I need to install it to figure it out. Is there any way I could put it in a gear and spin the input shaft to figure the gearing out? I know there are some gears in the Vx tranny that are drastically different from the other D-series trannies.

5th gear

spin input shaft 10 times, diff should spin 4.4 revs.

Well I just inspected the condition of the tranny, and the input shaft moves about a 1/4 in side to side and in and out...I sense the tranny is garbage.. damn.

I'll check the ratio, and if it's a vx, I'll just take it apart and attempt to repair what bearings are no good.

Ahhh vx trannies...I remember not even having to shift into 5th gear on the highways and 4th gear already had the rpm's pretty damn low. You should also look around for a CX tranny as those are also have some pretty long *** gears. I always thought the VX and CX had the same tranny's.
