So I get a new computer. It's a 700mhz "e-machine and it has XP professional on it. First problem, the god damn ethernet plug is there, but doesn't do a god damn thing. It lights up, but when I connect it, it doesn't do anything and the network still says it's unplugged. I get this error when I first start the computer that says:

WARNING
ERROR
Resource Conflict- PCI Network controller in slot 3
Bus:01, Device:0B, Function:00

Ok, slot 3 is where the netgear ethernet plug is. Why is there an error there? Should it not be in slot 3?

I also have tried to use every god damn linksys driver that is available to the public and it will not ------- work with this other computer. Is it because it's XP pro? I have it working flawlessly on my computer with XP so what's the problem? I've tried to use the same god damn drivers I installed on my computer, but it will not ------- work.

something is using the same resource as the nic card, any other cards in the computer?

 

if you bought it from a store or shop take it in and tell them to fix it
problem solved otherwise i have no idea

 

its a 700mhz... i dont think they sell them new that slow

 

I know. I'm scared to uninstall. Will I be able to install afterwards without going on the internet?

There is a regular dial up internet slot in #1, but that's it. It looks like I have 4-5 empty slots.

It's going back tomorrow, but I'd rather get it working tonight if I can.....but I can't.

At least XP is better than ME. Boost, you **** off the computer gods at some point? Run of bad luck sucks man... I'd just take it back to wherever you got it, or call geek squad...

 

Boost dont uninstall anything yet. just try moving the card to another slot and see if that works. the error is saying that the resoucer that slot 3 has assigned to it are in use by some other component. so by moving th slot you will be using diff resources than slot 3 and it should work. i have had similar problems and almost always this fixed it for me.

 

This is the point where having a computer guy as a friend is useful.
