Default no oil to oil filter

Well, i've finally put in my newly built d16z6, and for awhile i was not getting oil pressure to the head. I took it apart and replaced the oil pump, primed the pump and started to get a little bit of pressure, still not near enough. So yesterday i decided to run the oil pickup through a parts washer and then i replaced the oil pickup gasket. I had my oil cap off and i started it up, expecting no oil like it had been for the past week or so, but to my surprise oil sprayed out everywhere. So i was relieved i was finally getting a good amount of oil pressure into the head. So i hooked up my oil pressure gauge just to check on it and it read nothing. Soo then i took off my oil filter to check that out, and completely dry, not even a drop in the filter. So im confused now, oil is def making it to the head, alot of oil too. However nothing is making it up the backside of the block it seems like, where the filter and oil pressure sensor and stuff is. Any ideas? Is there a possibility there is just like an air pocket or somthing, If the rain passes by today when i get off ill work on it some more but i figured i would get some ideas. Thanks

hmm. The main things I can think of to check off is the oil pump(if its working), and the oil pickup if its clogged. Other then that, there isn't much. Is there oil coming out of anything? Did a shop build the motor? Maybe they left an oil hole unplugged. Just a thought?!

slight leak out of the drain plug, no biggie, but motor runs perfect and the head is getting alot of oil so the pump and pick up must be working, shop did build the lower end

how long can you run a motor with no oil getting to the head? and the oil has to get through the filter or at least its internal bypass before getting to the head or bottom end. somthing is not adding up here.

yeah im confused too, im going to replace the filter just to see what happens, i heard about frams having a stuck valvethat can cause no oil to circulate into it or somthing. Should i maybe let it run a little longer and see if it builds up? Its got oil into the head so i cant be hurting anything other then non filtered oil

changed the oil filter today, filled it up with oil too when i put it on, double checked the gauge wiring, good connection from oil pressure sensor, good/clean ground, other wire goes right to positive battery, still nothing at all on the gauge, not even a flicker when starting it. Still oil spraying into the head, spraying out everywhere when oil cap is off..no clue

first make sure the oil LIGHT on the gauge is on when u power it up without cranking
start car, if oil light goes off that means theres at least SOME pressure. if thats the case try a different pressure gauge, it is fucked.

start it up with the oil filter off. If you don't end up with a big mess, then you have some big problems
