Default Bandsaw cutting question

I have a HF 6 X 4 bandsaw and it takes about 10 mins to cut on side of my collector piping is this about normal?

It cuts my straight pipe, t-fittings, and 90s alot quicker

I have a grizzly bi-metal blade

I have it on the middle set of pulleys, i am cutting 304 stainless

thanks
richie

Man that's long. Mine doesn't take near that time.

Word of the wise. I made a new stand and coolant setup 2 weeks ago, BEST thing I did to that saw EVER. $4 blades cut like bi-metals now, bi-metals eat metal like butter!

Thats maybee how long it was taking me. My saw isn't a HF but its pretty much the same thing and I'm also using the middle pulleys w/a good bi metal blade. If I put just a little bit of weight on the very end it speeds up tthe cutting too.

JK - you should post up some pics of you saw, especially the coolant setup.

Ya, I will when I get them off the camera.

I just use a Princess Auto (Canadian HF) parts washer, modded it a bit, wired it to the saw switch, 16g belly pan with some holes drilled to drain back to the Parts washer.

Can a "regular" band saw be used, or does it have to be a specific one for metal? Can I get the required blade from Princess Auto?

When cutting metal you want the thickness of the metal you are cutting to be equal to the length of 3 teen on the saw blade. If that reguar blade is for thicker materials it will give you lots of trouble.

my saw makes a 6 inch collector cut in about 2 minutes, its the ebay saw 64.6x.5 blade.

i wont divulge my setup though. lets just say the saw is not "stock"

304 stainless is exponentially harder to cut that other steels/stainless

I sealed around the switch with hot glue, I was to lazy and didn't want to wait for silicone to dry. Cuts way faster, cleaner and cooler for the price of the part washer that was on sale and the cutting oil. Mind ya while building it I damn near broke my finger and got 5 stitches when tI got my hand pinched in the saw.
