Ok heres the deal....i have had my 94 ls for about a month now and after i drive it to work or anywhere for that matter the engine compartment and header especially gets extremely hot. Also i checked my plugs (after i bought it) and there appears to be oil on 2 of the plugs. i have no idea where this came from because the dude seemed knowledgeabe about cars and claimed he changed his oil. my brothers crx had the hot header problem and it was due to something with the catalytic converter.

Is your car overheating?

Are the plugs black like soot or black and wet? If the threads were oily then probably ^ what he ghettoturbo said.

after i get home from work the valve cover as well as my plugs are very hot..is that from oil getting down into the plug chamber or is it normal? or could this also be a need for a new cat? bc i have holley airmass header back exhaust except for the stock cat haha is it possible that the guy that had the car before me had a dumbass attack and didnt want one or is it that big of a deal to have a stock one on aftermarket exhaust system?

 

wow...oh my god wow...u r so lucky u posted when u did, now it sounds like u have a couple of problems here...first off ur plugs and vavle cover shouldnt be hot what so ever...try poping ur hood but just let it rest on the latch, this will cause a "ram air" effect which will decrease under hood temps dramtically...second off who puts oil in their car, what a dumbass...next u def need a new cat...actually make it 2...now hurry up and do exactly wut i sed and get back to us with results, almost forgot to check the temp of ur oil use a mercury thermometer and if the under hood temp exceeds 65 degrees break the thermometer and drink the mercury

 

ok now could that hot valve cover be cue to the oil level being high? bc right now its 1/8 inch high. but i didnt think that would affect it. do i have to get a performance cat?
so am i supposed to drive around with the hood being held on my only the safety latch?
well i am almost positive the temp under the hood is higher than 65
and the plugs are almost too hot to handle
