So I got to go to my first SCCA Nationals event this weekend and help pit crew for a Formula 500 Team. These guys travel all over and I have been lucky enough to be invited to help out from time to time.

What an experience, if you guys thought drag racing was cool...this by far puts a drag event to shame. I'm hooked...

I'll be going to a couple more events this year at Pocono, Watkins Glen and back to Limerock of course (so close to me) so hopefully some of you guys will come out if its close enough to you. I still have to find out the date of the Glen race.

July 29th - Limerock

do those things use polaris 2 stroke snow mobile engines? that loks exactly like a polaris pvt, but alittle diffrent on the yellow car. but it looks like an atv pvt because of the teeth on the inside of it. the flywheels for electric start go on the other side of the snowmobiles because they're optional for weight....

Yes, they are ~500cc snowmobile engines...thus the title of the class, Formula 500

They have a Formula V class (Volkswagen motors) and Formula F class (ford motors).

There are some many other classes though, it makes your head spin.

 

actualy i think it might be a bombardier ski doo rotax engine. i bet those things fly. expecialy if you droped a 900 in them

 

They will get up to 140 on a straight if you have long enough. They were doing 125 on the straight at Limerock.

Yes, it was a Rotax 2-stroke.

I think we are going to throw a wideband on this thing and see if we cant teach a few old dogs new tricks next time out
