Default smoking... turbo?

This is on my S13 with SR swap- I know it isnt homemade- but turbo tech is turbo tech.

Redtop, 3inch turbo back, FMIC, 10psi, stock t25

previously this turbo was daily driven 20psi+ (spiking)
^I know- it wasnt me^

Anyways, it will smoke dark grey/black out of exhaust (muffler) only after a really hard run (autox track this weekend). After it times down, and shuts off for a few minutes, it is fine- no smoke- nothing unusual.

Same thing happens around town, I daily drive normally an no smoke. Sometimes when I get on it hard it will smoke afterwards a little.

Is this the turbo slowly going?

I checked shaft play on compressor side and it is more than I would like, but nothing extreme. I think this sounds right on, since it doesnt smoke all the time, I wouldnt expect there to be a ton of shaft play.

I assume it isnt the engine burning oil, since it doesnt smoke when driven normally.

also, I pulled off the i/c pipe and the compressor housing is fairly clean inside, with small amounts of oil founs on coupler

Sounds like the turbo seals are going bad slowly. Are you running some sort of oil restrictor on your set up?

More likely the turbo... but you can't completely rule out the engine. I'm not exactly sure why this would happen, but oil could be getting past the rings only when in boost (and maybe higher RPM's). Does it smoke at ANY boost or boost @ higher RPM's? Answering that will help to rule out the engine.

It smokes strictly when ran hard at higher RPM + boost. Around town driving it doesnt smoke unless you run it hard

apparently is has one built into the turbo oil inlet, not the line, from the factory.

Sounds like its just rich. Oil smoke is blue or usually white from bad turbo seals.

my a6 dose the same thing. So I kinda found a way around it. It is only when I go under hard vac. that I see some blue smoke. I know it is not my motor because I was running it preaty hard a few weeks ago with out the turbo and It didnt smoke a bit. Now when I push it hard It smokes after it boost, but if I push in the clutch after I run it hard and let it idle when I decell, it dosent smoke. Go figure?
