well i finally decided to begin welding so a bought a 160amp smiley unit should be here in a couple of days. the one problem is that ive never welded in my life, i know the basic concept behind welding but still kinda unsure on a couple of things. first what do you do to prep the metal, i was thinking just clean it off with acetone, but is that enough, and could any one give me some beginers welding tips. and yes i downloaded the haynes manual and have been reading it.

don't use acetone, it isn't nescassary for the welding you will probably be doing. just use a wire brush. stainless for stainless and aluminum only. don't use the same stainless brush on ms. you could also use a brass wire wheel on a bench grinder.

When you get it, just start welding ---- together. Once you've mastered the art of welding ---- together you can start asking for tips to perfect the art of welding ---- together. I'm a master flux-core welder.
