These last couple of days I have noticed a wierd noise coming from what seems to be the drivers side of my motor. The sounds is like a clicking or tapping sound. It only happens between 2300-3000 rpms when the motor is under load. (Wont make the sound reving in neutral). As soon as the motor starts making a significant amount of a boost the sounds disapeares completely(3200 and up). Anyone have any idea? Timing belt? Also lately my oil preasure has been acting wierd. It sometime climbs up to 75 psi then suddenly drops down to 60-65 psi where it usually sits, could this be related? My car is a 90 Teg B18b turbo, intercooled running 8 psi.

when was the last time you did a valve adjustment? I check and adjust w/ every oil change .

 

you'd probably hear that at idle and free revving...

are you sure you aren't detonating?

 

I wouldnt cross it out... but im thinking he should be able to hear it throughout the RPM band if it is detonation. Kinda have to hear the sound. Is it kinda like "marbles on metel" tapping sound What kinda plugs, gap, IC, amount of boost buddy, lil more info please...

 

my car was making a weird noise under load too, then the sprocket on the water pump decided to remove itself from the water pump shaft.

my cars actually doing the same thing right now.

 

Get rid of some timing...i think that's what did my sleeve in on my b18a1.

 

I dont think its pinging, but ill retard to timing and see what happens. Any ideas why the car would just start pinging all of a sudden? My car still makes the noise even after starting it up on a cold morning, would it ping even when cold?

Mechanicly adjusting the timing has no effect at all on the sound. Could it still be pinging?
