i just noticed today that my oil pressure drops when i get into boost.. it drops by about 5psi most of the time and goes back up once i let off.. is this normal? it's never done it before and i dont want the damn thing to blow before i can rebuild it

 

Mine kinda does it too on my LS. When i let off the throttle though it actually jumps up 5 psi then settles back down

 

mines never done it before now though so im a little worried.. and mine slowly climbs back up to normal, but its dropped as much as 15psi before while in boost but not often

 

I whould pull a charge pipe off and see if there is any oil inside them, You may have a seal thats leaking in that turbo. How many miles are on it?

 

supposedly 500 when i bought it but it had quite a bit of shaft play for a 500 mile turbo, once i stuck it in and ran it though most of the shaft play sucked up and havent had any problems

im buyin a donor turbo for a rebuild soon though so im not worried if it is a bad seal... i dont have any smoke though so wouldnt i see at least some if there was one?

 

Yeah, you'd probably see a decent amount of smoke out the back if it was leaking that bad, or it's leaking into the pressure side and it's getting cloggged in you intercooler.

 

Do you have a vtec head? If so a drop in oil pressure is normall when in vtec.
