I have a slight warp in my head flange and I could PROBABLY draw it in or at worse hit it Joseph Davis style with the belt sander. However, I saw this and never understood it until now. Making relief cuts on the in between exhaust ports to acutally make EACH port seal to its own. I personally think it will work better this way and will prevent any kind of heat warpage exhaust leak later on. Before I go grab the Metabo, what do you guys think?


Next, I saw my exhaust ports are smaller and all carboned up. Any benefit, not benefit, worthy my time and skill to grab an airtank attachment and clean it up or maybe even port them a little? Or should I say forget it and leave this for another day or person?

if you vcut a manifold flange thats already welded like yours, the bolt holes and ports will releave themselves and youll never get that manifold on the car again.

you need to cut the flange and bolt it down them weld it. i would go belt sander style rather than cut it

 

Both Peter and I did that to our log manifolds. It's good to relieve stress and it's so simple. I would say do both. Throw the belt sander at it, then get someone with a bandsaw to cut those reliefs in it.

Thanks for both opinions, buts it's a 1-1 toss up. Sounds like belt sander with maybe a side order of SawZaw.


I have the standard internal WG SS log mani with mild steel flanges if this changes anything.

Yeah we both cut after it was welded, didnt even hit it with the belt sander. ***** mint no leaks

 

Seals each port to each its own right? So I should cut inbetween like shown in the pic and I'm straight? Might try it with the old gasket today.


Now, anyone about my 2nd question?

Okay, thank you. Dad is leary on the cutting of the head flange. Why? I do not know. He must think a $1300 manifold design by full-race is poopy.

i would surface the manifold before you cut it. cutting it will only make it shift and itll most likely be worse. ive done it before and ill never cut another one again.

 

This is the nicest you've EVER been to me. Thanks for the genuine help, Josh. (and others) It's getting resurfaced as we speak. The cutting is up in the air.
