Welding inside those things really sucks. The good part is that you don't have to have a cup on your torch unless you want to walk the cup.

Despite what popular belief is, pure oxygen is not explosive. You have to have a fuel and oxygen to have a fire. For example, in a cutting torch, you have acetylene (fuel) and oxygen. Neither will burn alone. Try lighting your torch with only the oxygen on and it will do nothing.

If you had oxygen and acetylene in that purge chamber, you would most likely kill the person that fired up to weld in it...and probably do damage to the building it's in.

Did you guys see the pic on the web where a couple filled a balloon with acetylene and were taking it to a super bowl party? They were going to blow it up to celebrate, but it blew up in the car on the way there. I suspect that it was actually a mix of oxygen and acetylene...but reporters aren't that "schooled" on gasses and how they work.

ya having my propane license I understand the knowledge of gas mixtures and the proper percentages to be explosive.
