It's pretty easy to just replace the whole thing. I've done it both ways and I suck at banding boots and a $60 axle from Napa is guaranteed for life.

The hardest part (for me) is getting the axles in and out of the tranny. You have to pop them out with a prybar or screwdriver. Getting tham back in, I line it up with the hole and just "throw" it in. I've busted freshly replaced boots (doh) using a rubber mallet. There's really nowhere to hit an axle to force it in.

Good luck.

It is your constant velocity joint, the outermost joint on your axle. They are rebuildable, there sortof like a puzzle. Fun to play around with but I'd just replace the whole axle.

Yep, just replace the axle. It will be alot easier is you buy a pickle fork.

don't use a pickle fork. u will split the ball joint. just take a hammer on the lower control arm and that joint will pop right out. 32mm socket for the axle nut.

Indeed, Just be sure to hammer on the side of the control arm and not the ball joint threads

Hmm hummm uh wow... How do I say this nicely. Well, I guess I can't.

Questions about an axle or even the noise? You my friend should not own a HMT ANYTHING!!! Turn the computer off and run from this website. Hurry, go now run very very fast before your next post about "how do I tap the oil pan? Should I use a wooden spoon or just buy some drum sticks"
