Default This forum has gone downhill...

I do notice a lot more fighting here in these forums lately, and will speculate on what the reasoning is:

It seems that everybody here gets a welding machine, and within weeks, they're selling ----. Therefore, a large percentage of the users here are trying to make money from what they have learned....even though they have a lot to learn still. Everybody's jumping on the bandwagon way too early, learning to weld as they sell stuff. Why not learn to weld first, then go sell what you're making?

So, what we have are several (admitted) amateurs that are trying to sell products and make money off of them. Competition becomes tight, and rather than it being an issue of who's really better, it comes down to who is better at bashing the other guys work.

Why not let the quality of your work sell itself, rather than have to bash the competition on message forums?

Look at all the big companies that do sell a lot of manifolds. You don't see them bashing others. They spend their time trying to BE better, not trying to bash better. They don't get caught up in the games on message forums.

If you're hoping to make some money in this, being professional is the only way to go. You may not start out with the greatest of equipment and/or skills, but you have the ability to ACT in a professional manner. All the bickering on these forums is only going to harm you in the end. For every person that's impressed by your superior bashing skills, there's probably 5 that think you're childish and won't want to buy from you.

I can't think of the guy's name he uses here, but he's an Asian guy named Anthony. He's started a business, and I think many of you could learn something from his professionalism. Sure, he's still young, and has likely had some past bickering and stuff, but as he's maturing, he's letting his work speak for itself. This has also allowed him more time to improve the quality of his work. You don't get to be a better welder/fabricator by spending time trying to put down the competition.

I recently worked at a mechanical contractor here locally. Another of the welders there was a guy I've known for many years. He's a pretty good welder, and never has a hard time finding work. He had an attendance (drug) problem and the fitter he worked with complained and wanted a welder that would be at work. I was the guy moved over to work with him. One day he told me something like "____ always told me how good of a welder he was, and one day I told him that if he was all that good, he'd not have been the only one saying it. If he was all that good, he'd not have to say anything at all." I always figure that if I'm good enough, I just have to do the welding...and others will be doing the talking.

In short, if you want to be a professional, act like one. Learn to bite your tongue. Small, positive comments about a competitor can put more feathers in your cap than bashing them.

This post is not meant to be a bashing of anybody, but merely a statement that may bring out other similar opinions. I think there's probably a lot of good people here that would rather make their own opinions about peoples work than to see them all bashing each other.
