HMT + Ghetto welds = Turbo ae86
So i have been working on my rolla for about a month or two off and on whenever i have time away from school and work. My buddy Joel has been there everystep lol, first thing we did was get a few beers and some smokes. These things are critical to a good turbo kit, and should be sold with any HKS or Greddy kit.
STarted off with these from Aaron Weir:

A nice set of manifolds, beautiful craftsmenship! They fit perfect, but i decided to go with a 14b so i tossed the flanges on ebay and got fucked. They sold for 5 bux ...
I tacked em up and ended up with this:

Afterwards we started to weld em up, we had a few beers and positioned them properly, but at some stupid point we put the manifold flange on backwards ... I duno WTF we were thinking, but we were like ---- it, so we drilled a hole in one end and fixed it.. Ghettooo but it worked lol, it now mounts on the motor as it should.
Then we stuck it on the motor, the motor is a 4agze smallport with largeport cams. I'm going to run megasquirt and edis so no need for the dizzy.

To clock the 14b we filed a little hole where that pin goes, and drilled another hole for the other pin on the exhaust housing. We havent fiddled with the wastegate yet, but im hoping it will reach with some extensions and whatnot.
AFter test fitting it in the car we figured ya know what, we should move the turbo closer to the rad and away from teh firewall.... so we capped the existing hole with some metal, ugly'd it up and made yet another hole on a different t section lol ... ( ya its our wastegate hole ya thats it ... )

That is the first hole covered with some nasty mig welding
This is the pic that shows how close the 14b was to the firewall, and why we moved it .

Anyway im finishing it over xmas while im off school, we will mamke another manifold in the spring but this will work for the time being.
Things to do : wire megasquirt, plumb downpipe and charge pipes.
Doesnt get any ghetto'r than this fellas.

Nice. There has been a lack of classic HMT setups around and this reminds me why i came to this site originally.Looks like its coming along nicely. So this is a rwd early 80's Corolla I take it?Keep the updates and pictures coming, sounds like this should turn out be a pretty solid setup.

Keep us updated.
