vitara piston to wall clearance.. *need help fast*
i got a set of vitaras to get the d ready for some serious boost. i dropped the engine off at the machine shop today and he asked if i wanted to use the stock honda piston to wall clearance? i said i guess.. but when i got home, i noticed that the vitaras and honda pistons look to be a totally different material. vitaras most likely cast aluminum, and the honduh's i have no idea? anyone running these one here? i need to call soon if it is wrong.

stock clearance should be fine. what is it like .005" anyways?
he didnt say it was out of spec, and my car has 165k on it and they were still kind of hard to get in the bore. at first i thought he sent me oversized ones.
My buddy thats helping me put the engine back together wants to know what other peoples ring gap is set at as well with std bore pistons.

I'm pretty sure my ring gap with out filling with std. bore vitaras/hastings rings in a dingleberry honed a6 was .022-.024. I also coated the skirts on the vitaras with techline's dfl-1 to take up some of the wall clearance. They were still a bit slappy at start up. If I had it to do over I'd run the oversize vitaras and bore the block.

well i bought oversize vitaras origionally, but the ------- i bought them from never shipped them. so i bought a set from fjt on HT, and he only has std bore and .040" over.. too much for boost
it looks like a ton of people are just dropping them in and running them with little probs. I'm sure that the vitara pistons might be a bit loose but with boost it should be ok. Its not like you're trying to get 100k miles out of this block, i hope?
yea there is a thread on honda-tech about how loose they sit. I know mine are going to be super loose, I also wish there was a cheaper forged piston to use, because I really need oversided ones because of my lip.
