Sean Penn's rescue bid sinks

EFFORTS by Hollywood actor Sean Penn to aid New Orleans victims stranded by Hurricane Katrina foundered badly overnight, when the boat he was piloting to launch a rescue attempt sprang a leak.

Penn had planned to rescue children waylaid by Katrina's flood waters, but apparently forgot to plug a hole in the bottom of the vessel, which began taking water within seconds of its launch.

The actor, known for his political activism, was seen wearing what appeared to be a white flak jacket and frantically bailing water out of the sinking vessel with a red plastic cup.

When the boat's motor failed to start, those aboard were forced to use paddles to propel themselves down the flooded New Orleans street.

Asked what he had hoped to achieve in the waterlogged city, the actor replied: "Whatever I can do to help."

With the boat loaded with members of Penn's entourage, including a personal photographer, one bystander taunted the actor: "How are you going to get any people in that thing?"

Hmm you knew a powerful hurricane was coming...hmmm you city is below sealevel and you still decide to stay? Ok you have legs don't you? You should of started walking, rode a bike, hitched a train, stole a car, hitchhiked. Stay at home. Don't remember hearing that one. Damn they know how to throw one hell of a party don't they?

The irony of going to save lives with a bullet proof vest on. Self fullfilling celebrity's make me laugh.

 

what a ------' loser. It's obvious he don't care about the people, he is doing it for publicity hoping for personal gain. Have a boat, aimed to rescue CHILDREN and a personal photographer to photograph his heroic action of saving a couple children. ------' ******, his career is poop. Him doanting the boat with a hole would do more good than he would ever be willing to do.

come on guys... hes in the ghetto, people are shooting at contruction workers, if i was him I wouldn't have even gon out unless i was in a bullet proof box. I bet the person who was with them wasn't only a 'personal photographer' he was most certainly there to help out aswell. it would be different if he had no arms or something.
