i finished my install this weekend and wired up the resistor pack. the car would not start. here is the basics:

b17a1 '93 integra gsr motor
vafc
stock saturated 240's ditched for the peak and hold dsm450's
89 crx resistor pack
yellow black wires spliced off the injectors wired to the red black wires out of the resistor with the yellow black wire out of the resistor going to where the injector yellow blacks used to be.

car wouldn't start, set all the wiring back to stock and it fired up instantly!

question is this: am i ruining my dsm 450's? can something be wired up wrong? has everything i've learned about the dsm 450 install been a lie? am i going crazy?

btw, the car smokes like crazy too.
this is how it is set up right now with the car running. i just have to switch the connectors to use the resistor.

 

Probably a bunk resistor pack. You'll end up ------- up your ECU running with no resistors.

dont you have a crx??

 

did you pick the right 4 black/yellow wires?

dont trust colors. test from each injector wire to the 8 wires in the dummy plug and make sure they are the right four.

its EF chassis i believe but it looks like he's using the obd1 engine harness, so it still has to be wired in.

 

did you check the resistor pack w/ a multimeter?

i took the 4 wires from the injectors that were identical and tied them together into the one wire that was different on the pack. then took the 4 matching wires from the pack back to the injectors.

check the pack w/ the multimeter then try wiring it up that way directly off the wires running to the injectors instead of through a harness under the hood...you might be hitting the wrong harness.

like he said before...don't run w/o it or you'll fry the inj drivers output on the ecu.

 

i believe it is the p61 ecu that came with the motor.

i did a continuity test between the injector connector to each wire to make sure i had the right ones. and there are only 6 wires in the dummy plug, not 8.
how do you test the resistor pack? your explanaition of the yellow/black wiring makes no sense. you took the 4 yellow/blacks from the injectors, connect them to the single yellow/black on the reisistor pack and then wire the 4 red/blacks from the resistor pack back to the injectors? where? the 4 different colors? those wires go straight to the ecu.

 

i clipped the wires directly going into the injectors and ran them to the resistorbox then from the resistor box back to the injectors. the common wires are what you want to do since the wires on the injectors that are different from each other are the firing order and you don't want to mess w/ those.

 

How's the problem now? i'm about to instal everythign in my car soon, resistor pack and all, now i'm scared.

 

Ive never heard of a resistor pack going bad. Its also strange that your car wouldnt start with it plugged in. The first time i installed larger injectors i did it without a resistor pack (even though it needed one) and the car still fired up and ran fine. I then found out i needed the resistor box so added it and the car still ran fine. Without a resistor box or inline resistors your ECU will get messed up, not immediately but over time (probably a short time).

try 4 inline 10 watt 10 ohm resisters to the yellow/black wires on the injector harness itself... it should work \fine.
