Default MAP Sensor Problems....kinda odd?!?!

Ok, this kid stops by the other day, has a 94 Civic EX automatic that he has turbo'd. He's running Uberdata/DSM blue tops. Here is where it get's strange (IMO) If he plugs the map sensor in, the idle raises a couple hundred rpm's and then the car dies. If he leaves the map sensor unplugged, the car runs ok and he has no CEL I don't get it. How can the car run with the map sensor unplugged and especially without a check engine light? He is not burning his own chips, he is having somebody else do it for him. I tried pulling his bin off the chip to take a look at it and I did not see anything that looked really strange as far as the misc settings, but to be honest, I am not all that well versed in Uber. Also, I am not sure who chipped his ECU for him either, but I do know that it was his stock ecu. The car runs and he is fine with it, but it makes no sense to me and I don't think it can be right, how can it run properly withought the map sensor Any ideas?

does the cel come on for two seconds like normal when the key is turned to the 'acc' position to indicate that it is in fact still working? try unplugging something else with the car running like the tps or iacv and see if that triggers the cel.

Hmmm, dunno, I don't actually know this kid, he just stopped by. I am sure he will stop again as he now knows that I can burn chips for him instead of him sending them to another state. So, if the CEL no longer works,do you think whoever chipped the ecu mucked it up?
