well i got my tdo4hl turbo off ebay a while ago. when i got it i thought it was fucked up cause there was shaft play. so i took the turbo apart and i noticed there was mad oil on the exhaust wheel and inside the exhaust housing. i was like o ---- the seals are blown but i noticed something. i saw one of the fins on the wheel was broke a little on the corner not much but a little bit so i looked around more. i saw 4 peices of metal and i put them next 2 eachother and they form suprise suprise a part of a piston ring. so this means the engine this turbo was on blew up and thats why there is oil where it is. now what i wanted 2 ask was, doesnt the oil smooth out some of that shaft play when its running through the center section i think i herd that it does. so what do u think should i just put it on and see how it works or have a rebuild just 2 be sure. thanks.

 

yeah just pour some 10w-30 into the oil feed line hole and spin the turbo a few times it should get noticeably tighter. If it has any in out shaft play then its bad

 

ok cool. na there is no in and out play just up an down but i'll see if the oil fixes that. thanks.

 

I would be more worried about the busted fins throwing it out of balance.
